Choosing a Therapist
Sometimes, choosing a therapist can be challenging. It can be difficult to know what is best for you. Below is a little about me and how I work with my therapy clients.
Treatment Modalities I Primarily Use
EMDR/Bi-Lateral Stimulation Techniques:
I predominately use EMDR therapy as it is particularly effective at significantly reducing the emotional charge from unresolved experiences or situations. EMDR is a very structured, yet dynamic process and when used with Schema Therapy and parts work offers a holistic approach to processing traumatic experiences.
Schema Therapy (with an integration of parts work) :
Allows for the exploration of the differences and conflicts in “agendas” between parts or aspects of oneself that are usually responsible for gridlock in one’s emotional healing or the effective processing of traumatic experiences. Another common term used in Schema Therapy and parts work is “inner child” which refers to a younger version of yourself; this part may hold happy moments as well as challenging, scary or traumatic events that were unresolved, and it holds them until you are ready to process and resolve them as an adult. This may be why sometimes emotions and/or memories come up when you are an adult.
My Therapeutic Style
I am an active therapist who works from a Schema Therapy and an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy approach. This means that if you are ready to deeply explore the underlying issues that are keeping you from living an authentic and fulfilling life using evidenced based therapies, I am the right kind of therapist for you.
You will do well in my care if you have a willingness and openness to explore your emotions during sessions. I understand it may take some time for you to develop comfort with this. When we process past trauma, having some capacity to feel a little worse is also necessary. Working at your pace is something I am mindful of and I will check in with you about the pacing from time to time.
I understand that therapy can often be challenging, and that feeling safe and supported in the therapeutic relationship is important. My approach is to work alongside you, at your pace, to help you make contact with your own sense of wisdom and internal guiding compass, to uncover new insights, learn new skills, and better access existing strengths.
Clients who do well in my sessions are usually professionals, aged 30+. I am comfortable and experienced working with health professionals and other psychologists seeking their own therapy.
